Jodrell Bank
This weekend I got the train to Goostry and met my family at Jodrell Bank. It's near to my sister's fiancee's son's birthday and everyone thought he'd really enjoy a trip (although my approval possibly stemmed from my own love of Jodrell Bank).
I think everyone had a good time, and the pies sold in the cafe are still good!
As with last time (… this time last year), this will again be a bit of a photo dump, although this time I wanted to try and look more closely at the dish antenna feed. It's crazy to think there's an entire ladder on there and really puts into perspective the dish of the machine. Unfortunately the zoom on my camera is not good enough to see it in the level of detail I was hoping.
This is apparently the thing which linked multiple radio telescopes together to form MERLIN. Although the note explaining it wasn't very good, so I'm not really sure what it is exactly.
This is part of the original console showing the direction the Lovell telescope was pointing in.
Inside the discovery centre there's a cool model of the Lovell telescope, which I would like to buy :D
You can also see the 7M telescope very easily while at Jodrell Bank, sitting on top of one of the control buildings. Apparently it's only really used for teaching purposes these days.
Since I took The Story of Jodrell Bank with me, my family insisted on me posing holding the book infront of the telescope. Hello!
